Sometime in the late 18th century, a newlywed couple planted the two large sycamores you see before you. This was part of a traditional marriage ceremony to celebrate their first home together. Whether they built or purchased the house we cannot say for sure, though the building, like their trees, does also date from the later part of the century. The building may also have some connections to the local industries -- perhaps pottery or tannery -- for a large crock was found in the backyard, along with traces of an outdoor oven.
