Part of The Growth of Nassau Street.
Though we don’t know the exact details of its history, this building is symbolic of Nassau Street’s rapid development as a stop for travelers and visitors to the college in the second half of the 18th century. Built around mid-century, it is believed to have been either a toll house, a tavern, or a coachman’s residence. The original building was a single-room house, typical of the area at the time.
