Gulick-Hodge-Scott House

7 Herrontown Road

Part of Kingston Mill District.

According to an 18th-century advertisement, this building was “new” in 1769. However, architectural evidence suggests that it incorporated a slightly older structure in its construction, dating from about 1740. That older section may have been a tenant house, perhaps built and owned by Barefoot Brinson. Brinson was Middlesex County Sheriff, and he resided in the Greenland-Brinson-Gulick House. In 1797, Major John Gulick purchased the property, and it was incorporated into the larger Gulick Farm. Gulick was a Sergeant in the Revolutionary War and became a Major in the early 1790s during the Whiskey Rebellion of western Pennsylvania. He also owned the Gulick Stage Line that ran stagecoaches between New Brunswick and Trenton.
