Following the closure of their Variety Shop at 32 Witherspoon, the Caplans opened the Princeton Army-Navy Store in 1945. They diversified the family business at this time, as Joseph became a partner with Nat Wolman in the Reliable Furniture company, just down the street. The store continued through three generations with the tradition of quality clothing at reasonable prices and exceptional customer service. In 1957, Joe Caplan purchased the former headquarters of the Hook and Ladder Company Fire House at 14 ½ Witherspoon Street and relocated his business, where it was family owned and operated until it closed in 2015.
