In 1948, a new modern wing facing Valley Road was added to the Princeton Township School on Witherspoon Street. The expanded school was quickly rechristened the Valley Road School, and report cards bearing the new name were issued that same year. The school’s expansion enabled it to accommodate a newly-integrated sixth, seventh, and eighth-grade population.
School yearbooks titled The Echo and the Challenger (an allusion to the competition between the younger Township school and the older Borough institutions) captured Valley Road School’s activities and traditions. Students participated in a wide variety of clubs and sports, including swimming, chess, field hockey, debate, music, and wrestling. Other clubs included Student Patrol, Student Court, Student Council, Journalism Club, Flag Committee, and Nature Club.
Today, the former Valley Road School building houses the administrative offices for Princeton Public Schools.
