The Urkens relocated from Trenton to Princeton in 1937, joining numerous Jewish families in setting up a business. Originally a glass shop run by Paul and Eunice Urken, it expanded into Urken Supply Company. The building remained the family’s central space, with their home located in the second floor apartment, until 1954. The Urkens were founding members of the Jewish Center with strong ties to the larger Jewish community. The business remained in the family with Irv and Cindy Urken running an upscale hardware and design store until 2002
