Declaration of Independence signer John Witherspoon’s presence looms large not only in Princeton’s past, but very much in its present. Conversations about Witherspoon’s legacy as a signer, an enslaver, a University president, and religious figure have shaped the landscape of the community for decades. Join the Historical Society of Princeton and Morven Museum & Garden for a free panel discussion exploring Witherspoon’s complex impact.
Panelists will discuss the historical context, slavery, and movements to challenge naming and memorials connected to Witherspoon in Princeton. The conversation will be followed by audience Q&A. We are pleased to be joined by:
